Colorado courts service-improvement program to appear throughout the 12th Judicial District

Friday, August 14, 2015

People with business at courthouses in Conejos, Costilla, Mineral, Rio Grande and Saguache counties on Aug. 18-21, and on Sept. 11, 2015, will be asked to participate in a program designed to help ensure the Colorado Judicial Department is providing the best service possible to the public.

Throughout each day, court employees will ask people exiting those buildings to fill out brief, anonymous survey forms asking about their experiences as jurors, parties to a case or as recipients of other Judicial Department services.  Survey forms will be available in English and Spanish.

In addition, attorneys, law enforcement officers and anyone else who does business with the courts is encouraged to participate.

Similar surveys were conducted Aug. 11, 2015, in Alamosa. Since 2007, surveys have been conducted at least once in each of Colorado’s 22 judicial districts.

Surveys will be conducted Aug. 18, 2015, at:

  • Costilla Combined Court, 304 Main Street, in San Luis; and
  • Rio Grande Combined Court, 925 6th Street, in Del Norte.

Surveys will be conducted Aug. 19, 2015, at:

  • Saguache Combined Court, 501 Christy Avenue, in Saguache.

Surveys will be conducted Aug. 21, 2015, at:

  • Conejos Combined Court, 6683 County Road 13, in Conejos.

Surveys will be conducted Sept. 11, 2015, at:

  • Mineral Combined Court, 1201 North Main, in Creede.

The surveys measure public opinion about access to and fairness of the courts.  Questions include whether people felt safe in the building, whether they could easily understand the forms they needed, and whether they felt their case was handled in a fair manner. Participants also are asked whether they felt the judicial officer listened to them and had all the necessary information before making a decision, and whether they felt they were treated with courtesy and given clear information about the next step in their case.

During Fiscal Year 2014, 2,545 cases were filed in District Court in the 12th Judicial District; and 7,549 cases were filed in County Courts in the district.
