Law Clerk Applicants

Clerkships at the Colorado Supreme Court are full-time positions for one to two years, typically beginning in August or September of each year.  The current salary for clerkships is $4934 per month.  Each Justice hires his/her own law clerks, typically about 12-18 months in advance.  To apply, unless indicated otherwise below, please submit a cover letter, your resume, your law school transcript reflecting at least three semesters of grades, a writing sample, and three letters of recommendation.  Writing samples should reflect only the applicant’s own work and should not have been edited by anyone else.  Letters of recommendation may be sent separately.  Application materials should be submitted to each Justice separately at the email address indicated below.

Chief Justice Brian Boatright - 720-625-5410

Chief Justice Boatright is now accepting applications for August or September 2022-start one-year clerkships.  We anticipate a mid-April application deadline, with interviews from late April through May, potentially spilling over into early June, depending on scheduling.

To apply, please merge all materials except letters of recommendation—which recommenders should submit separately—into a single PDF document and send to Apply.Boatright@judicial.state.co.us with the applicant’s name in the subject line.

Justice Monica Márquez - 720-625-5450

Justice Márquez is now accepting applications for clerkships and will be hiring three law clerk positions beginning in the fall of 2022. The law clerk/judicial assistant position will be a two-year clerkship; the other clerk positions are for one year. Applicants are welcome to submit materials now; however, we will not schedule interviews until later in the spring. We will continue to interview applicants until all three positions are filled.  Applications may be sent via mail or via email, with the applicant’s name in the subject line, at Apply.Marquez@judicial.state.co.us.

Justice Hood is now accepting applications and conducting interviews for one-year clerkships. We will continue to interview applicants until all positions are filled.

Justice Gabriel is still accepting applications for 2022-23 law clerks.  Justice Gabriel asks that writing samples not exceed 10 pages, and if possible, that at least one letter of reference come from a current or prior employer, whether or not in the legal field.  Please submit all materials to Apply.Gabriel@judicial.state.co.us with the applicant’s name in the subject line.

Justice Hart has hired law clerks for the 2022-23 term.

Justice Hart will accept applications for fall externships beginning in May 2021.  Applications should include a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample.  Writing samples should reflect the applicant’s own work and should not have been edited by anyone else.  Applications should be submitted to Apply.Hart@judicial.state.co.us.

Applications for unpaid internships are being accepted.  Applications need to be sent to each individual Justice. Application requirements: cover letter, resume, law school transcripts, and writing sample. References may be included.
