Notice Regarding Covid-19 (the "Novel Coronavirus") and Court Operations (updated 3-27-2020)

Arapahoe District Courts, Douglas Combined Courts and Elbert Combined Courts will be open to the public for emergency matters only from 8:00am to 2:30pm through April 10, 2020.

COVID-19:The court is temporarily CLOSED and is hearing only emergency matters from March 19th through April 17th.

 

ATTENTION:

As a result of public health preparations to prevent the spread of COVID-19, almost all services at all courthouses in the 18th Judicial District are closed for regular business. Please see the information below for instructions on how to contact the court.

YOU WILL ONLY BE PERMITTED TO ENTER THE COURTHOUSE FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS:

  • You need to request a temporary protection order;

  • You are scheduled for a permanent protection order hearing;

  • You need to submit an emergency request to restrict parenting time or a request to prevent parental abduction of your child;

  • You need to request the appointment of an emergency guardian and/or special conservator;

  • You are scheduled for a temporary custody hearing in a dependency and neglect case;

  • You need to request an emergency mental health hearing;

  • You need to request a temporary emergency risk protection order;

  • You are scheduled for a permanent emergency risk protection hearing;

  • You are named as the victim in a case and the defendant is in-custody and will be appearing in front of a judge for the first time or for filing of charges.

  • You are a family member of a defendant that is in-custody and will be appearing in front of a judge for the first time or for filing of charges.

       Parties to the cases listed include attorneys, witnesses, victims, law enforcement and press.

As a result of Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Coats order suspending court operations through April 3, 2020, except for essential court functions, to reduce the spread of COVID-19, effective immediately the Courts and Probation of the 18th Judicial District will be operating with reduced staff.

Please start by contacting your attorney if you have one.

Please allow up to 2-3 days for court staff to reschedule your hearing before contacting the court.  The courts are actively working on rescheduling court dates.

PERSONS WITH A SUMMONS TO REPORT FOR JURY DUTY BETWEEN THE DATES OF MARCH 18, 2020 AND MAY 15, 2020 ARE NOT REQUIRED TO APPEAR. YOU MAY RECEIVE A NEW REPORTING DATE THROUGH ISSUANCE OF A NEW JUROR SUMMONS.

The Eighteenth Judicial District was established in 1962, in 1964 Arapahoe and Douglas were the only two counties within the district. Twenty days after the creation of the Eighteenth Judicial District in 1964, Elbert County was added to the District. In 1969, Lincoln County was added to the District.  Arapahoe, Douglas, Elbert, and Lincoln County currently make up the 18th Judicial District. Today there are 48 judicial officers in the Eighteenth Judicial District and five court locations.
