The Eagle County Combined Courts will be re-commencing jury trials starting March 1, 2021. The safety of jurors, parties and staff will be a priority. The Court has worked cooperatively with the Eagle County Public Health and Environment to assure that appropriate health standards are met.

If you have recently been diagnosed with COVID-19, are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, have recently been exposed to someone with COVID-19 symptoms, or you are a vulnerable individual or reside with someone who is a vulnerable individual, please call the Jury Commissioner at (970) 328-6373 to determine whether your jury service should be delayed.

COVID-19 symptoms include the following:

  1. Fever (100.4 degrees Fahrenheit or higher);

  2. Shortness of breath;

  3. Dry cough;

  4. Headache, muscle aches or earache;

  5. Sore throat, runny nose or chills;

  6. Loss of sense of smell or taste;

  7. Abdominal pain such as nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

“Vulnerable individuals” are:

  1. Individuals who are 60 years old or older;

  2. Individuals with chronic lung disease or moderate to severe asthma;

  3. Individuals who have serious heart conditions;

  4. Individuals who are immuno-compromised;

  5. Individuals who are pregnant;

  6. Individuals living in a nursing home or long-term care facility;

  7. Individuals with severe obesity (body mass index of 30 or higher);

  8. Individuals with diabetes;

  9. Individuals with kidney disease;

  10. Individuals with liver disease;

  11. Individuals determined to be high risk by a licensed healthcare provider; and

  12. Individuals caring for a “vulnerable Individual”.

To meet our safety goals will take additional time and planning for all parties. A health assessment questionnaire board will be reviewed by all potential jurors at check-in the morning of trial and temperatures will be taken.  Jurors experiencing COVID symptoms will be excused. We ask for your patience during this process.

Masks will be required at all times. For those who do not have masks, the Court will provide masks. Jurors are encouraged to bring their own hand sanitizer and disposable wipes. Protective barriers will be installed during the trial. Social distancing will be practiced at all times.

Jurors are encouraged to bring a book or other item to keep them occupied during breaks. They will not be permitted to use during actual jury selection, but there may be more frequent and longer breaks during this modified process. Jurors are also encouraged to bring their own snacks and sack lunch. Food will not be provided during the jury selection process and many lunch locations near the Courthouse are running with limited capacity.

With everyone’s cooperation, we are confident that we can meet the safety needs of our community while assuring the rights of all parties to the proceeding. We thank you in advance for your patience, cooperation and participation.
