A native of Elizabeth, New Jersey; Magistrate Judge Robert Freeman graduated from Seton Hall University School of Law in 1979. Prior to joining the judicial branch he practiced law with North Country Legal Services, Legal Services of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Colorado Rural Legal Services, Pueblo County Legal Services, the Colorado State Public Defender and in private practice. Magistrate Freeman also taught constitutional law at the University of Southern Colorado and bankruptcy law at Pueblo Community College.
Magistrate Judge Freeman was appointed in the District Court for the Eleventh Judicial District in 1994. He has served in all four counties of the Judicial District. Magistrate Freeman is currently assigned to the Custer County civil, probate, domestic relations, juvenile and dependency/neglect dockets. He also presides over the Fremont County domestic relations docket, a portion of the civil docket and a portion of the preliminary criminal proceeding docket. Additionally, arrest and search warrant responsibilities are shared with all of the judges in the Judicial District.
