Case Number and Next Court Date

What does a case number look like?

In the Colorado State Judicial Department, case numbers begin with the year the case started, then have one or two letters, and end with one to eight numbers. A few examples are below:

Felony Cases: 2022CR1958

Misdeamor Cases: 2022M2538

Traffic Cases: 2022T2052

District and County Court Civil Cases: 2022CV3052 or 2022C300368

Divorce Cases: 2022DR1502 or 2022DR30405

There are other case types not listed above that may be designated by a different letter but the structure will remain the same.

Where can I find my case number?

Your case number is normally located in the upper right-hand corner of court paperwork in the header.

If you do not have court paperwork to reference, you can try searching your name (or the name of the person involved in the case) in our docket search. This search normally only contains cases with court dates coming in the next 3 months.

The best way to get your case number is to call our Customer Service line at 719-404-8700, Opt. 3.

When is my next court date?

You should have been informed of your next court date at the end of your last one or when you opened your case. You may have been given a business card which had your next court date listed or a paper called a Setting Notice, which would list your next court date. You may also have received a Summons or Setting Notice in the mail. However, if these things didn't happen or you've misplaced them you have options.

You can try searching your name (or the name of the person involved in the case) in our docket search. This search normally only contains cases with court dates coming in the next 3 months. If you put in your information and nothing comes up, please don't assume you don't have a court date. This is only a reliable search if you get a result that matches your information with a court date listed.

The best way to find out your next court date is to call our Customer Service line at 719-404-8700, Opt. 3.

Can I appear virtually for my next court date?

Pueblo Combined Courts holds the majority of court hearings in person. You may only appear virtually if scheduled as such. Attempting to appear virtually without prior approval by your Judicial Officer is not an acceptable substitute for appearing in person.

If you do not know whether you can appear virtually, please proceed to the Contact the Court page and call Customer Service or your assigned division. Your division number is normally found under your case number on court papework and will be a three digit number from 101-504. If you don't know it. You may also contact the correct division if you know your judicial officer's name.

Can I reschedule my next court date?

In some cases yes, but it does require approval of the judge or magistrate handling your case. It is highly recommended you do this at least two weeks prior to your scheduled court hearing. This allows time for the judge to approve or deny your request and for other parties to be notified of any changes.

Please visit the Customer Service window in-person or the Contact the Court  page and call Customer Service or your assigned division to see what is required. In most cases, you will need to submit a written request to the court. Court Clerks can provide guidance on what to submit.

If its too late to reschedule, make every effort to appear to avoid serious consequences. If you have an emergency situation, contact the court as soon as possible.
