General Information

IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION:

YOUR JURY SUMMONS IS A LEGAL DOCUMENT.  YOU MUST READ THE DOCUMENT THOROUGHLY.

If you received a summons for jury duty it is because your name was selected at random through lists provided by Voter Registration, Department of Motor Vehicles (driver's license or state ID), or the Department of Revenue.

If you are enrolled in Informed Delivery with USPS and received a notification that your jury summons will be in your mailbox, but have not received it yet, you can find your reporting date in the code directly under the pink box that says, LEGAL DOCUMENT:  JURY SUMMONS.  The reporting date is the four digits under the "UR" in JURY.  You should receive your jury summons approximately two weeks prior to that date.

You must be prepared to stay until 5:00 p.m. on your appearance date

Complete your juror questionnaire before you arrive & bring it in to the Jury Assembly Room with you.

There are no exemptions in Colorado for students, stay at home parents, employment, and there is no upper age limit for jurors.

If you are chosen as a juror, the trial generally starts as soon as the jurors are selected; in most cases selection is completed on the first day.  We will not know what type trial you are assigned to until you appear.

Upon entering the El Paso County judicial building you must go through a security screening.  Please leave metal utensils, mace, weapons, knitting/crochet needles, contraband, fingernail files/clippers, large safety pins, and as much metal as possible at home or in your car as you will be required to empty all of your pockets. The line to enter the judicial building may be long so please plan accordingly for the weather (the doors open at 7:30am).

Restrooms are available in the jury assembly room.  There will be additional paperwork to complete when you report; please bring reading glasses with you if necessary.

There will be a waiting period in the jury assembly room; you may bring reading materials, laptops, and cell phones to use after the jury orientation is complete.  You may bring bottled water, coffee in a container with a lid, snacks, and medication with you.  All electronic devices must be turned off prior to going to the courtroom.  Business casual clothing, including jeans, is appropriate.

Your appearance date is listed on your summons with the reporting instructions in the blue box.

POSTPONEMENT REQUESTSAll postponement requests must be in writing & submitted at least 5 business days prior to your reporting date. Please choose carefully as we can only provide one postponement.   If you would like to request a postponement please click on the postponement tab above to submit your request or complete and mail sections 2 & 3 of your summons to the return address on the front of your summons. An alternate date no less than 6 weeks from your jury service date, but no more than 6 months from your jury service date must be provided.  If no alternate date is provided, a random date will be assigned.

DISQUALIFICATION REQUESTS: Disqualification requests MUST be accompanied by documentation such as a doctor's letter (the doctor must specify permanent disqualification on the letter if you are requesting a permanent disqualification).  If your request requires a doctor's letter, it cannot be submitted online, at this time.  Complete and mail sections 2 & 3 of your summons, along with the doctor's letter, to the return address on the front of your summons.

PLEASE ALLOW 3 BUSINESS DAYS FOR A RESPONSE THAT IS SUBMITTED ONLINE.  IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED AN EMAIL RESPONSE TO A REQUEST THAT WAS SUBMITTED ONLINE, PLEASE CHECK YOUR JUNK OR SPAM FOLDER FOR AN EMAIL FROM  elpasojury@judicial.state.co.us

STANDBY JURORS ARE NOT EXCUSED FROM WORK.  IF YOU ARE A STANDBY JUROR AND YOU CHOOSE NOT TO REPORT FOR WORK, YOUR EMPLOYER HAS NO OBLIGATION TO COMPENSATE YOU FOR YOUR TIME AS YOU WERE NOT REQUIRED TO REPORT TO THE COURTHOUSE PRIOR TO THE STAND-BY CALL.

CHILD CARE

Children are not allowed to accompany prospective jurors to Jury Duty.  Free Child Care is provided by Court Care, which is run by the Colorado Springs Child Nursery Centers.  They are located in Room S140 in the courthouse.  Their phone number is 719-452-5499 and you must call ahead to reserve a spot as space is limited.
