Obtaining a Verbatim Transcript

What is a transcript?

A court record is created in one of two ways: by a Court Reporter who sits in the courtroom and takes down what is said or recorded via the in-court audio system. Either way, the best way to know what was said during a court hearing is to order a transcript. A transcript is a written copy, word-for-word, of what transpired during a court hearing.

How much does it cost?

Rates for transcripts are set by a CJD (Chief Justice Directive). Current transcript rates are listed at the top of a Transcript Request Form, which you will use to request your transcript. It is a per page rate, which means the cost varies based on how long the hearing was and how quickly you need your transcript. Cost is hard to predict before the transcript is ordered. After that point, the Court Reporter or Third Party Transcriptionist will provide an estimate and you decide whether you wish to move foward.

How long will it take to get my transcript?

Transcripts can be ordered as expedited (10 days from the date you make payment) or ordinary (30 days from the date you make payment). It is rare to receive a transcript any quicker, so please allow ample time whenever possbile.

How do I request a transcript?

Transcripts are requested using a Transcript Request Form. The form for the 10th Judicial District-Pueblo County can be found here. Once you've completed the form, you can email it to 10CourtReporter@judicial.state.co.us, bring it in person to the Customer Service window, or mail it to the court's address.

What happens after I order?

After you submit your request, court staff assign it to the appropriate Court Reporter or a randomly assigned third party transcription company. The Court Reporter or Transcriptionist will contact you with an estimate of your total costs and may require a deposit before they begin work. Once the transcript is completed, a copy is emailed to the requesting party in PDF format. If you do not have access to email, other arrangements can be made.
