GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES

Lead the program established under Colorado Senate Bill 19-043 to provide outreach regarding judicial office vacancies and create and deliver educational programming about the judicial application process.

DISTINGUISHING FACTORS

This position is distinguished from other positions due to the lead functionality of the Judicial Officer Outreach program. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE POSITION

Develop and administer programs and educate populations of potential candidates regarding the judicial officer application process to help demystify the process.

Attract and retain a large diverse pool of candidates for judicial officer positions throughout the state of Colorado.

Work with various stakeholder groups to encourage law students and attorneys to consider a legal career on the judicial bench. 

Establish and maintain internship programs that provide opportunities for attorneys and law students interested in judicial bench to learn and work with Judicial Officers and the Colorado Judicial.

Work with current Judicial Officers and other stakeholder groups to establish and maintain mentorship programs for newly hired Judicial Officers to promote long-term success of their judgeship.

Collect, analyze, and share statistical data regarding the Judicial Officer Outreach program and Judicial Officers including applicant pool data, recruitment and retention efforts, demographic information and other pertinent information for reporting.

Create yearly report for the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and the Judiciary Committees of the House of Representatives and Senate, concerning the background, professional history, and qualification of Judicial Officers in the State. 

May be responsible for recruitment and selection of unit employees.

May assist subordinates in establishing goals.

May provide recommendations regarding subordinate's employment probationary/trial period.

Provides orientation and on-going training, mentoring and coaching to existing subordinates.

May provide cross-training and interdepartmental training.

Attends departmental and special meetings and trainings, as required.

Participates in special projects and other duties, as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May have supervisory accountability for other employees, volunteers, or interns.  May plan, direct, and coordinate activities for a unit. Duties include scheduling and assigning work, training in all facets of work, and quality control.  May conduct performance appraisals and provide input into and participate in the discipline, dismissal, and hiring processes.

EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and five years of experience in statistical analysis, outreach methods and procedures, work measurement, forms design, program planning or other related fields. 

OR

Additional work experience in court services, outreach programs, or other related fields may be substituted on year for year basis for the required formal education.

Law degree preferred.  Recruitment or outreach experience within the legal community preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms and perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Relatively free from unpleasant environmental conditions or hazards.  Office environment.
