Public Dedication Ceremony Video May 02, 2013   •   Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center

Representatives from each branch of the state and federal governments joined U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor on May 2, 2013, to formally dedicate the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center. The building – home to the Colorado Supreme Court, Court of Appeals, Department of Law and other legal- and court-related entities – is named for Colorado’s 29th governor, who sacrificed a promising political career when he took an unpopular stand against the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. The building, which was designed to last a century as a monument to the rule of law, features an expansive glass wall in a four-story atrium facing the Colorado Capitol, emphasizing the ties among the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government.
