Mike Garcia named director of the Division of Probation Services

Friday, June 10, 2016

DENVER – The Colorado Judicial Branch announced today that Seventeenth Judicial District Chief Probation Officer Mike Garcia has been appointed by State Court Administrator Gerald Marroney as the new director of the Division of Probation Services.

Garcia replaces Eric Philp, who was named director of the Division of Probation Services July 1, 2011, and is retiring June 30, 2016, after serving nearly 26 years with probation in a variety of positions.

“I would like to thank Eric Philp for his many years of dedicated service to the Division of Probation Services and wish him well in retirement,” Marroney said. “I am very pleased to have Mike Garcia take on this new role and look forward to working with him. I am confident he has the experience and skills necessary to lead this team effectively.”

Garcia joins the State Court Administrator’s Office with 30 years of experience in probation. He began his career in probation in 1986 as an alcohol evaluator and became an alcohol coordinator in 1988. In 1990, he became a probation officer and was promoted to probation supervisor in 1997. In July 2003, Garcia was promoted to deputy chief probation officer and became the chief probation officer of the Seventeenth Judicial District in October 2003.

Garcia’s appointment is effective July 1, 2016.
