Weld County Adult Treatment Court celebrates seventh anniversary, National Recovery Month

Tuesday, September 22, 2015

GREELEY – The Nineteenth Judicial District (Weld County) will celebrate the seventh anniversary of the Weld County Adult Treatment Court, in conjunction with National Recovery Month, on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, at 4:30 p.m. in Division 12 at the Weld County Plaza West Courthouse (910 10th Ave., Greeley, CO 80631) with a reception. The public is invited to attend.

As part of the celebration, this problem-solving treatment court will officially adopt “Weld County Adult Treatment Court” as its formal name. The program was previously known as the “Adult Drug Court.”

“The name change provides a more accurate description of what our Court is all about,” said Presiding District Court Judge Timothy Kerns. “Our goal is to provide our clients with individualized treatment options designed to help them overcome their addictions and embrace a life of recovery.”

The Court was launched in September 2008 with a mission to reduce crime by integrating substance abuse treatment, mental health treatment and intensive supervision, by promoting public safety, individual responsibility and improving the quality of life for the Weld County community.

“Since launching this Court we have graduated 51 participants and currently have 38 active participants who are working hard to make positive changes in their lives, their families’ lives and the community,” Judge Kerns said. “I am very proud of what Weld County and the Court’s participants have accomplished in a relatively short period of time. The program team and participants are to be commended for their hard work and dedication to making this program successful.”

The Weld County Adult Treatment Court is collaborative program involving the Court, probation, district attorney’s office, public defender’s office, Weld County Commissioners, Weld County Sheriff’s Office, North Range Behavioral Health, Intervention and BI Incorporated.

The Weld County Commissioners are expected to attend the reception celebration and will issue a proclamation deeming September “Recovery Month.”
