Garfield County Adult Drug Court to hold graduation

Tuesday, August 4, 2015

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. – One participant in the 9th Judicial District (Garfield, Pitkin and Rio Blanco counties) Adult Drug Court is scheduled to graduate from the program in a public ceremony Aug. 5, 2015.

The graduation, set for 10 a.m. at the Garfield County Courthouse, 109 8th Street in Glenwood Springs, marks the 40th person to successfully complete the program since it was launched in 2001.

Twelve participants are enrolled in the program, which provides intensive supervision, treatment and judicial oversight toward the goals of promoting public safety while reducing future criminal activity and providing treatment to offenders with substance dependence.

Partners in the Garfield County Adult Drug Court include the court, Probation Department, District Attorney’s Office, Garfield County Sheriff’s Office and local treatment providers from Mindsprings Health.

“Drug Court is a valuable alternative to conventional methods of dealing with criminal behavior,” said District Judge John F. Neiley, who presides over the Drug Court. “It’s a highly structured program that requires a huge effort by all the team members and by the clients. Successful graduates learn the skills necessary to become productive, contributing and sober members of our communities.”

The 9th Judicial District currently supports two other problem-solving courts: the Pitkin County Adult Treatment Court and the Pitkin County Wellness Court. Each problem-solving court targets specific populations who can benefit from the treatment and structure the programs provide.
