Colorado courts service-improvement program returning to Prowers County

Wednesday, June 3, 2015

LAMAR, Colo. – People with business at the Prowers County Combined Court on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, will be asked to participate in a brief survey designed to assess the Colorado Judicial Branch’s service to the public.

Throughout the day, court employees at 301 S. Main in Lamar will ask people exiting the building to fill out brief, anonymous questionnaires asking about their experiences as jurors, parties to a case or as recipients of other Judicial Branch services.  Survey forms will be available in English and Spanish.

In addition, attorneys, law enforcement officers and anyone else who conducts business with the courts is encouraged to participate.

Similar surveys have been conducted in the past in Lamar, most recently in 2013. Since 2007, surveys have been conducted at least once in each of Colorado’s 22 judicial districts.

The surveys measure public opinion about access to and fairness of the courts.  Participants are asked whether they felt safe in the building, their ease in understanding court forms, and whether they believe their case was handled in a fair manner. Participants also are asked whether they felt the judicial officer listened to them and had all the necessary information before making a decision, and whether they felt they were treated with courtesy and given clear information about the next step in their case.

During Fiscal Year 2014, 962 cases were filed in District Court in the 15th Judicial District (Baca, Cheyenne, Kiowa and Prowers counties), including 666 in Prowers County; and 3,826 cases were filed in County Court in the district, including 2,336 in Prowers County.
