First Judicial District offers free one-on-one assistance for self-represented litigants

Monday, October 6, 2014

GOLDEN, Colo. – People representing themselves in court proceedings in the First Judicial District (Gilpin and Jefferson counties) will have the opportunity to meet with an attorney for 15 minutes to discuss their criminal, civil, domestic, or small-claims case.

The event is part of an American Bar Association program to focus the nation's attention on the increased need for pro bono services, attorneys volunteering or offering assistance at a reduced rate for the public good.

The Pro Bono Celebration event, sponsored by the First Judicial District Bar Association, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, in the atrium of the Jefferson County Combined Courts at 100 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden.

There is no charge to meet with an attorney at the Pro Bono Celebration event.  Discussions are confidential.

“There is an increasing need for access to legal advice, especially for people who are unable to afford the cost of legal representation,” said First Judicial District Magistrate Marianne Marshall Tims.  “The semi-annual event helps the community gain some of that access, and address the ongoing need.”
