Colorado Judicial Branch hosts Legal Resource Day for people representing themselves in court

Monday, September 8, 2014

DENVER – Each year, more and more Coloradans forgo the counsel of an attorney and decide to represent themselves in court for civil and domestic relations matters. The Office of the State Court Administrator estimates that by the end of 2014 our pro se litigant coordinators will have made more than 100,000 contacts with people seeking assistance with the court process.

The Colorado Judicial Branch is committed to providing those without an attorney with the information and education they need to be prepared to appear before a judge.  Toward that end, the Branch is hosting Legal Resource Day on Saturday, Sept. 20, 2014, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ralph L. Carr Colorado Judicial Center (2 E. 14th Avenue, Denver, CO 80203). There is no cost to attend.

“Legal Resource Day is an opportunity for pro se litigants to come to the courthouse to learn more about court procedures and processes to have an effective day in court,” Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Nancy Rice said. “I sincerely hope many people will come to learn more about the judicial system and I look forward to hosting more of these clinics in the future.”

Chief Justice Rice will kick off Legal Resource Day at 10 a.m. with opening remarks welcoming participants and providing an overview of the sessions being offered. The hour-long sessions will be taught by volunteer lawyers and include:
