Eagle County RISE sobriety court to graduate three

Tuesday, October 8, 2019

EAGLE, Co. – Eagle County Court’s RISE (Recover Invest Succeed Excel) sobriety court is expected to graduate three participants from the intensive monitoring and supervision program on Oct. 9, 2019, at the Eagle County Justice Center. The celebration will be the 68th graduation ceremony performed since the program’s inception in Feb. 2013.

The Eagle County Court’s RISE program provides an alternative to incarceration for eligible DUI offenders, helping reduce correctional costs and enhance long-term community safety.  Of the 79 participants enrolled in the program since 2013, 68 have completed it successfully; three years post-graduation, 77 percent of the graduates have not committed another crime.

“This program was life changing for me,” said one graduate. “The intensity at the beginning was good to get me on the right track.”

“It is my privilege to work with the participants in the RISE Court,” said presiding Judge Rachel Olguin-Fresquez. “I am able watch participants grow in sobriety and it is very rewarding to see how people overcome challenges and develop a life without substances.  We are very fortunate that the State of Colorado sees the benefit of recovery courts and allows us to operate two here in Eagle County.”

Eagle County Court’s RISE program is one of many problem-solving courts in Colorado helping keep communities safer by getting repeat DUI offenders off the roads and providing them with the intensive treatment, supervision, and support they need to help them return to being productive members of society.

Nearly 80 problem solving courts are in operation in Colorado, including adult and juvenile drug courts, family courts, DUI courts, mental health courts, and veteran courts.
