Eagle County courts to celebrate graduations and retirement

Monday, December 18, 2017

EAGLE, Colo. – Seven participants in the Eagle County Drug and DUI courts are expected to graduate from the intensive monitoring and supervision programs Dec. 20 in a ceremony that also will mark the retirement of the Hon. Katharine T. Sullivan, who presides over those courts.

Judge Sullivan founded the Eagle County DUI Court in October 2009 and the Eagle County Drug Court in February 2013. More than 100 people have successfully graduated from the programs, and 70 percent of them have not been charged with any new offenses.

Many return to report their ongoing success.

“I am forever grateful for the new lease on life she afforded me,” said Justin Eastling, who graduated from the DUI Court program in 2015. “I was an absolute mess before DUI court. If it was not for this program I would probably be in prison or worse.”

Judge Sullivan’s final Drug and DUI court docket begins at 2:30 p.m. Dec. 20. The docket will be followed by a farewell ceremony for Judge Sullivan and a reception for the graduates.
