Bakke appointed Chief Judge of the 20th Judicial District

Friday, September 15, 2017

DENVER – Colorado Supreme Court Chief Justice Nancy E. Rice has appointed District Court Judge Ingrid Bakke to serve as Chief Judge of the 20th Judicial District (Boulder County).

She replaces retiring Chief Judge Maria Berkenkotter, who was appointed to the District Court in July 2006 and was named Chief Judge in June 2013. Judge Bakke’s appointment is effective upon Chief Judge Berkenkotter’s retirement on Oct. 31, 2017.

Before her appointment to the District Court in January 2011, Bakke was in private practice focusing on criminal defense and child abuse matters. She also served as a prosecutor for 6 years in Boulder County and 11 years in Jefferson County, during which time she served as Chair of the statewide Sex Offender Management Board.

Judge Bakke has taught internationally on trial skills and the prosecution of sexual offenses. She graduated from the University of Denver College of Law and was admitted to the Colorado Bar in 1990.

“Chief Judge Berkenkotter’s remarkable skills as a jurist and leader will be greatly missed,” Chief Justice Rice said. “I am pleased to appoint Judge Bakke to serve in this important role and am confident she will succeed.”

As Chief Judge, Bakke will serve as the administrative head of the 20th Judicial District, responsible for appointing the district administrator, chief probation officer and clerk of court, assisting in the personnel, financial and case-management duties of the district, and seeing that the business of the courts is conducted efficiently and effectively.
