First Judicial District offers free one-on-one assistance to self-represented litigants

Wednesday, April 26, 2017

GOLDEN, Colo. – People representing themselves in court proceedings in the First Judicial District (Gilpin and Jefferson counties) will have the opportunity to meet with an attorney for 15 minutes to discuss their criminal, civil, domestic, or small claims case.

The National Law Day Celebration event, sponsored by the First Judicial District Bar Association, will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, in the atrium of the Jefferson Combined Court building at 100 Jefferson County Parkway in Golden.

There is no charge to meet with an attorney at the Law Day Celebration event.  Discussions will be confidential.

The event is part of an American Bar Association program designed to focus the nation's attention on the increased need for pro bono services – attorneys volunteering or offering assistance at a reduced rate for the public good.

“We increasingly see more and more litigants appearing in court who are not able to afford legal counsel,” said First Judicial District Judge Randall C. Arp. “This event is a much appreciated response by the legal community to meet the tremendous needs of the less fortunate members of our community.”
