DENVER – Longtime Second Judicial District Judge John Coughlin died Thursday, Feb. 9, 2017, of a heart attack at his home. He was 70.

“He was a kind, generous man,” Second Judicial District Chief Judge Michael Martinez said. “He was a courageous and outstanding jurist committed to a fair, even process for those whose cases he heard. A truly wonderful colleague who will definitely be missed.”

Upon his retirement from the bench, he joined the Judicial Arbiter Group (http://www.jaginc.com/arbiters/jcoughlin) where he continued to proudly represent and uphold the Rule of Law. He received his J.D. from the University of Colorado School of Law and his undergraduate degree from St. Mary’s College, California.

A celebration of Judge Coughlin’s life will be held at noon, Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 830 Elm Street, Denver, CO 80220.
