John McKisson to be sworn in as new County Court judge in Walsenburg

WALSENBURG, Colo. – Following Governor John Hickenlooper’s November appointment of John ‘Clay’ McKisson to the Huerfano County Court bench in the Third Judicial District (Huerfano and Las Animas counties), McKisson will be sworn in by Chief Judge Claude Appel on Tuesday, January 10, 2017, at 11 a.m. in the District Courtroom of the Huerfano County Courthouse (401 Main Street, Walsenburg, CO 81089). McKisson fills the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Gary R. Stork.

Prior to his judicial appointment, McKisson worked as a probation officer for the State of Colorado and as an Assistant District Attorney in the Third Judicial District. He has served on the La Veta School Board, Huerfano County Parks and Recreation Board, and Huerfano County Child Fatality Board. He also worked in private practice in Michigan handling domestic relations matters before moving to Colorado. McKisson earned his undergraduate degree from Ohio University and his J.D. from Thomas Cooley Law School.
