17th Judicial District Court Navigator Program seeking volunteers

BRIGHTON, Colo. – The 17th Judicial District is seeking people to serve in a new Court Navigator Program that selects and trains volunteers to assist people without attorneys who are involved in tenant-landlord disputes in the Adams County Court.

Under supervision of a program coordinator, volunteer Court Navigators work directly with tenants and landlords in the courtroom to help them find necessary court forms, provide information on their rights as a tenant or landlord, help them access courthouse and community resources, and explain court procedures and options. Volunteer Court Navigators do not provide legal advice.

The Court will provide the necessary training and other support to help tenants and landlords navigate the legal process and have a productive court experience. Navigators will be trained on the civil court system, courthouse and community resources, rights afforded to tenants and landlords, and communication and facilitation skills.

Volunteer Court Navigators will work in the courtroom on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays from 8-10 a.m., interacting with lawyers, court staff and judges.

The first scheduled training will occur at the Adams County Justice Center (1100 Judicial Center Drive in Brighton) from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Nov. 15, 2016.
