COVID-19 AND COURT OPERATIONS

MASKS OR FACE COVERINGS ARE REQUIRED IN THE ADAMS COUNTY JUSTICE CENTER, BROOMFIELD COUMBINED COURTS BUILDING, AND PROBATION OFFICES 

Temporary Chief Judge Order 2020-09, Amended,  Issued August 21, 2020

Order to Extend Chief Judge Order 2020-09, Issued September 13, 2020

1. The courts in the 17th Judicial District will continue to operated with primarily VIRTUAL DOCKETS through at least the remainder of 2020. A proceeding shall be conducted by remote means through telephone, video, WebEx, Conference Now, or any combination thereof, as determined appropriate by the judicial officer.

** TRAFFIC CASES: all cases in DIVISION C (MAGISTRATE RUSSELL) are being heard REMOTELY. Please click here for details and instructions.**

Judicial Officers have discretion to determine whether public safety matters will occur in person or remotely, however appearances by telephone and/or video shall be encouraged and accomodated for all participants. A list of public safety matters can be found on page 5 of Chief Judge Administrative Order 2020-01 A9, issued on November 23, 2020..

2. We anticipate that some matters may still have to be rescheduled through the remainder of 2020. The party is ultimately responsible for ensuring that a matter is rescheduled by contacting court staff. If the case has not been rescheduled by the court, the party SHALL APPEAR REMOTELY, unless otherwise authorized by the judicial officer, Please click here for instructions on how to appear remotely.

3. JURY CALLS:  All jury calls are suspended through December 7, 2020 . Jurors may be summoned to appear on or after December 7, 2020.

4. CLERK’S OFFICE:

FOR THE HEALTH AND SAFETY OF STAFF AND VISITORS, THE PREFERRED METHOD OF DOING BUSINESS WITH THE CLERK’S OFFICE IS BY TELEPHONE AND EMAIL, RATHER THAN IN PERSON AT THE CLERKS’ WINDOWS.

REDUCED PUBLIC HOURS: the Clerk’s Office will be open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

5. PROBATION DEPARTMENT:

  • The Probation Department is open for regular business, Monday through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • It is requested that any persons coming into probation buildings are COVID symptom free and wearing a face covering.
  • If you are experiencing any possible COVID symptoms, please do not come to the office and call your probation officer. 
  • All persons coming into probation buildings will be subject to security screening and should plan additional time if requested to come for an In-Office Appointment. 

6. GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • Social Distancing.  Social distancing shall be maintained with respect to all in-person activities within the courthouses.
  • PLEASE DO NOT COME TO THE COURTHOUSE and call the court to reschedule your court date, request to appear by phone, or receive further instructions if you meet the criteria bellow:
    • you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 (“Novel Coronavirus”) and you have not received a subsequent test confirming that you are currently virus-free;
    • you have been in direct contact with someone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 within the past fourteen days;
    • you are experiencing a fever, cough, shortness of breath, or any other respiratory illness symptoms.
  • If you are not an attorney, party, victim, witness or a provider on a specific case, please defer your visit to the courthouse to a later date.
  • All persons over the age of 10 entering or moving about the courts or probation buildings MUST WEAR A MEDICAL OR NON-MEDICAL FACE COVERING AT ALL TIMES.  Persons may also bring small plastic containers of hand sanitizer into court and probation buildings.  
  • Members of the public shall follow the directions of judicial officers, court security, administration and court staff.
  • Members of the public shall follow the directions of all signs posted at the front of the courthouses and throughout the buildings.
