Law Clerk Applicants

Clerkships at the Colorado Supreme Court are full-time positions for one to two years, typically beginning in August or September of each year.  The current salary for clerkships is $5440 per month.  Each Justice hires his/her own law clerks, typically about 12-18 months in advance.  To apply, unless indicated otherwise below, please submit a cover letter, your resume, your law school transcript reflecting at least three semesters of grades, a writing sample, and three letters of recommendation.  Writing samples should reflect only the applicant’s own work and should not have been edited by anyone else.  Letters of recommendation may be sent separately.  Application materials should be submitted to each Justice separately at the email address indicated below.

Chief Justice Brian Boatright - 

Chief Justice Boatright is accepting clerkship applications for the 2024-25 term.

 

Applications should include a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, writing sample of ten pages or less, and three letters of recommendation.  Writing samples should reflect the applicant’s own work. Specifically, the writing sample may not include work that was edited by a supervisor, professor, or other person. Please submit application materials to Apply.Boatright@judicial.state.co.us.

 

Justice Monica Márquez - 

Justice Márquez is now accepting and reviewing applications for summer 2024 internships. 

Justice Márquez is also accepting clerkship applications for the 2025–2026 term. She will begin reviewing application materials around March 2024 and continue until all positions are filled. She will be hiring for three clerkship positions, including one two-year position.

Justice William W. Hood, III - 

Justice Hood is accepting applications for both clerkships and internships.  Please submit all materials and any questions about hiring to Apply.Hood@judicial.state.co.us

 

Justice Hood is accepting clerkship applications for the 2025-26 term.

Justice Hood is no longer accepting internship applications for summer 2024.  He will begin reviewing internship applications for fall 2024 in late June.

 

Justice Richard Gabriel - 

Justice Gabriel is accepting clerkship applications for the 2025-26 term.

Applications should include a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, writing sample, and three letters of recommendation.  The writing sample should reflect the applicant’s own work and may not include work that has been edited by another person.  Please submit application materials to Apply.Gabriel@judicial.state.co.us.

 

Justice Melissa Hart - 

Justice Hart has hired clerks for the 2024–25 term. Justice Hart will begin reviewing clerkship applications for the 2025-26 term in April 2024

Justice Carlos Samour- 

Clerkship Applications 

Justice Samour is accepting clerkship applications.  Applicants should indicate in their cover letter which term they are applying for.  Justice Samour reviews applications for the following year’s term starting in July (e.g., he will review applications for the 2025-2026 term in July 2024) and typically extends offers in August.  Justice Samour has completed hiring for the 2024-25 term.  

Applications should include a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, writing sample, and three letters of recommendation.  Writing samples should reflect the applicant’s own work.  Specifically, the writing sample may not include work that was edited by a supervisor, professor, or other person. Internship Applications 

Justice Samour is also accepting applications for judicial internships.  Applications should include a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, and writing sample.  Letters of recommendation are welcome but not required.  Applicants should indicate in their cover letter whether they are seeking a spring, summer, or fall internship.  Please submit internship application materials to Apply.Samour@judicial.state.co.us.

Justice Maria Berkenkotter - 

Justice Berkenkotter is accepting clerkship applications for the 2025-26 term. 

Applications should include a cover letter, resume, law school transcript, writing sample of ten pages or less, and three letters of recommendation.  Writing samples should reflect the applicant’s own work.  Please submit application materials to Apply.Berkenkotter@judicial.state.co.us.

 

Justice Berkenkotter is not accepting internship applications at this time.

 

Unpaid Internships 
Applications for unpaid intern and externships are being accepted.  Applications need to be sent to each individual Justice. Application requirements: cover letter, resume, law school transcripts, and writing sample. References may be included.
