REPRESENTATION OF INDIGENT RESPONDENTS
Mental Health Cases
FLAT RATE compensation only

The Nineteenth Judicial District (Weld County Combined Court), Colorado Judicial Department, is seeking qualified attorneys to provide legal representation for respondents in mental health cases pursuant to Title 25, Article 10 and Title 27, Articles 10.5, 65, 81 and 82, C.R.S., as amended, and Chief Justice Directive 04-05, as amended.  Services provided will be under the terms of contractual agreements between the Judicial Branch and attorneys for appointments during the period of July 01, 2021 through June 30, 2024.  The Department will pay a contract fee of $291.00* per initial appointment to represent a client, and for each subsequent appointment to represent a client under the terms of the contract the fee is $198.00*.  Attorneys selected will have an independent contractor relationship with the Department and may maintain a private practice.  A contract relationship with the Department is required to receive routine mental health counsel appointments for respondents in mental health cases in this District/Court. You are required to request your contract payments for court appointments on-line.

 

REQUEST FOR THE PROVISION OF LEGAL SERVICES
Representation in Truancy Cases

The Nineteenth Judicial District, Colorado Judicial Department, is seeking qualified attorneys to provide legal representation (counsel) for children and parents in truancy cases pursuant to Section 19-1-105(2), C.R.S., Article 33 of Title 22, as amended, and Chief Justice Directive 04-05, as amended.  Services provided will be under the terms of contractual agreements between the Judicial Branch and attorneys for appointments during the period of July 01, 2021 through June 30, 2024.  The Department will pay a contract fee of $179.00* per appointment to represent a client prior to a motion for contempt citation being filed.  Note: If the first appointment to a case is made upon the filing of a motion for contempt citation, it will be compensated on an hourly basis, in lieu of the flat fee amount, pursuant to rates established in Chief Justice Directive 04-05.  Attorneys selected will have an independent contractor relationship with the Department and may maintain a private practice.  A contract relationship with the Department is required to receive routine truancy counsel appointments for children or parents in truancy cases in this District.  You are required to request your contract payments for court appointments on-line.

 

REQUEST FOR THE PROVISION OF LEGAL SERVICES
Criminal Advisory, Probate, Witness Counsel, Contempt, and Guardian ad litem for Adults

The Nineteenth Judicial District, Colorado Judicial Department is seeking qualified attorneys to provide legal representation (counsel) for the following.  Services provided will be under the terms of contractual agreements between the Judicial Branch and attorneys for appointments during the period of July 01, 2021 through June 30, 2024.

  • Counsel in Truancy proceedings pursuant to Title 22, C.R.S.
  • Advisory counsel in Criminal matters, pursuant to Chief Justice Directive 04-04.
  • Counsel in Probate matters pursuant to Title 15, Article 14, C.R.S.
  • Counsel for a Witness regarding self-incrimination pursuant to Chief Justice Directive 04-04.
  • Counsel for a Grand Jury Witness pursuant to Section 16-5-204, C.R.S.
  • Counsel in Contempt proceedings pursuant to Rule 107(d) and 407(d) of the Colorado Rules of Civil Procedure.
  • Guardian ad litem services for impaired adults in civil cases pursuant to Chief Justice Directive 04-05.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

Qualifications

  • Applicants must have maintained their license to practice law in Colorado for at least three (3) years.  Significant experience in mental health cases is highly desirable.  A description of further Court requirements is included with the application materials.
  • Applicants must maintain a policy of professional liability insurance.
  • Applicants must have available sufficient staff and other resources to support the adequate representation of any/all clients assigned under the terms of the contract.

Application Procedure

Selection

Contractor selection is determined by the Chief or Presiding Judge or his/her designee and is subject to approval by the State Court Administrator.  The Department reserves the right to reject any or all applications.  Selections are based on qualifications and will be made in the best interests of the Department.  All selection decisions will be final.

** Guardian ad Litem contracts for representation of minors are the responsibility of the Office of the Child’s Representative. **

* Rate is subject to change pursuant to Chief Justice Directives and funding from the General Assembly.
