Clerkships at the Colorado Court of Appeals are either a one year appointment beginning in September of each year or are longer-term appointments, at the discretion of the hiring judge. Service with the same appellate judge for more than one year will provide additional paid benefits and the opportunity for future annual salary increases.

Applicants must have completed at least four semesters of law school prior to submitting application materials.

Applications are accepted between August and December and interviews are conducted anytime after Labor Day. The application should include a resume, a writing sample, a law school transcript showing class rank, and not more than three recommendation letters. Judge Davidson’s selection is based primarily on class rank, writing ability, and the interview. Judge Davidson has hired his law clerks for the 2010-2011 law clerk year.

Judge usually begins interviewing in January for the following August or September. Interested law students may submit applications by the end of December. The application should be accompanied by a writing sample, and the applicant should submit three letters of recommendation. Judge values writing experience, either on a law review or otherwise, and looks for individuals with public service or public interest experience.

Judge prefers to receive applications before August 1, but will consider all applications received by Labor Day. Each application should contain a resume, a short writing sample (preferably not a Law Review article) undergraduate and law school transcripts, and no more than three letters of recommendation, not more than two such letters coming from law professors. Judge will interview applicants of unusual qualifications (national law school, significant non-legal writing experience, prior clerkship experience) at any time. Otherwise, applications before August 1 are preferred, but applications received through September 15 may be considered. An interview and a short writing exercise are required. Interviews typically occur in August and September, with a decision by October 1, if not earlier. The application should include a resume, a writing sample (preferably not a law review article or case note), a law school transcript showing class rank, and not more than three recommendation letters (preferable from at least one person who is not a law professor). Judge gives primary consideration to class rank and writing experience. Judge Webb has hired his law clerks for the 2010-2011 law clerk year.

Judge generally starts reviewing resumes pretty seriously during the summer, and accepts resumes up until about Oct. 15. Interviews begin in late September and go into October, depending on how many people are chosen for interviews in any particular year. Judge's goal is to have a clerk hired no later than Thanksgiving, who will then start work in August of the next year. Judge Loeb has hired his law clerks for the 2010-2011 law clerk year.

Judge will accept applications until the position is filled, with the goal of hiring during the fall for the following year. He gives primary consideration to class rank and writing experience. Applications should contain: (1) a resume; (2) undergraduate and law school transcripts; (3) three letters of recommendation, at least one not from a law professor; and (4) writing sample of unpublished material, preferably unedited by anyone else. Judge Gabriel puts a premium on superior analytical and writing abilities, particularly as demonstrated by real world experience, and good organizational skills.
