Elizabeth Volz - 18th Judicial District Judge

Judge Volz received her undergraduate degree in English in 1976 from Hartwick College, Oneonta, NY.  She went on to receive her juris doctor degree in 1979 from Albany Law School, Union University, Albany, NY.  She served as an Assistant Public Defender in Charleston, S.C. for four years and then went on to serve as a prosecutor for the Territory of Guam.  She was the Chief Prosecutor for the Territory from 1985 – 1987.  Judge Volz served as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Maryland from 1987 – 1995 and as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Colorado in the Special Prosecutions Unit from 1996 – 1999.  Prior to her appointment to the bench she was Senior Counsel for the firm of Campbell Killin Brittan & Ray.  Judge Volz has served as an Adjunct Professor for the University of Guam and Metropolitan State College where she taught penology, constitutional law and evidence.    In the 1980’s she chaired the governor’s task force on child sexual abuse establishing protocols for the investigation, prosecution and sentencing for such offenses. She has also provided training for various police academies, crime labs, DEA and the EPA.
