Magistrate McNulty graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1990 with a Bachelor of Arts
in Government. He spent the following year working with developmentally disabled adults as a
volunteer with Holy Cross Associates in Oakland, California. He attended the Marshall-Wythe
School of Law at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, graduating in 1994.
He was hired by the Office of the Public Defender in 1995 and moved to Grand Junction at the
end of that year. He worked as a Deputy State Public Defender for 13 years before being
appointed as a Magistrate in 2009.
