Gerald J. Rafferty has been a District Court Judge in the 18th Judicial District since 1999. Rafferty earned his bachelor of science degree from the United States Air Force Academy in 1967, and he served as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force from 1967 to 1972. From 1973 to 1977, Rafferty was a Special Agent in the FBI. In 1978, he received his juris doctorate degree with honors from John Marshall Law School.
Rafferty was a federal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney's Office from 1978 to 1988 and from 1989 to 1995, being Of Counsel for a law firm from 1988 to 1989. Rafferty was an adjunct professor from 1995 to 1999 with the University of Denver Law School. Additionally, he worked in the Denver District Attorney's Office as Deputy District Attorney from 1995 until 1999, when he was appointed to the bench.
