Judge Sylvester received his bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland in 1973 after being honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. He received his law degree from the University of Georgia in 1976.
Judge Sylvester was in a general private law practice prior to joining the 18th Judicial District Attorney's Office in January of 1991. He was a frequent trainer on the national level for the National College of District Attorneys and lectured for the Colorado District Attorney's Council. He left the District Attorney's Office after being appointed to the District Court.
He has been on the District Court bench since Aug. 1, 2001, hearing juvenile delinquency and adoption matters. Since October of 2006, he has served as the Chief Judge of the 18th Judicial District.
