Judge Cooling presides mainly over traffic and misdemeanor cases.
Judge Cooling was one of Governor Ritter's first judicial appointments in February, 2007. He graduated from Tulsa University College of Law in 1984. After a brief stint in private practice, he spent the next 21 years as a deputy district attorney in the 11th Judicial District. He is a member of the local and Colorado Bar Association.
Judge Cooling volunteers as a board member of two local, non-profit agencies. He serves as a "volunteer judge" in the Fremont County Teen Court program. He also is a volunteer presenter of the "Our Courts" forum, a non-partisan effort from the National Judicial Institute and the Colorado Bar Association. "Our Courts" informs members of civic groups about the process of selecting, disciplining, and retaining judges in Colorado.
In his spare time, he enjoys photography.
