Judge Michaelson graduated from the University of Denver College of Law in 1982. He was appointed to the Custer County Court Bench in September of 2003.

Judge Michaelson is a part-time county court judge and continues to maintain his private law practice in Westcliffe. He currently presides over misdemeanor criminal matters, traffic cases, and civil cases involving claims less than $15,000.
