"MANAGING BUSINESS NEEDS WITH TECHNOLOGY"

Technology should satisfy the business needs of courts and probation, and conversely business interests need to be well versed in how to use technology appropriately, and may even need a kick start from technology to reengineer out dated business practices. Keeping technology and business structurally separate results in redundant efforts and communication issues. Business and technology are so intertwined today, that any further discussions about a need to be separate are an artifact of past organizational structures.

The primary objective of the JBITS division is to provide decision makers with the most current, accurate, valid and complete information possible so they can make the most informed decisions.

To best accomplish this, JBITS staff must:

  • promote and enhance efficiencies in the daily operations of the Judicial Branch;
  • identify and implement best business practices (e.g., protection orders);
  • recommend business and technology policies as appropriate;
  • respond to daily Q&As from the field;
  • update records retention policies and procedures;
  • provide procedures to improve the flow of appellate courts' records; staff various Branch committees (e.g., court clerk legislative committee);
  • develop and support all software applications for the Judicial Branch;
  • provide business and application software training;
  • work with the field in identifying, developing, implementing and supporting new technologies that will support business needs;
  • interface with other agencies in implementing data and information exchanges (e.g., CICJIS, FAMJIS);
  • and design, implement and support the technical infrastructure (e.g., PC devices, servers, networks) needed to conduct the Branch’s business.

JBITS consists of five units:

  • Executive Services
  • Applications Services
  • Court Services
  • Data Exchange Services
  • Technical Services
